Another TOO Exciting Week!

We’re happy to say, it seems to be one exciting development after another for TTWU at the moment. After a few lovely gigs this week we have been approached for a whole load more!

We started with a most enjoyable afternoon busking at the Dorchester Curiosity Centre last Sunday, which was busy in spite of the rain. We soon found a corner to settle in, next to the rails of gorgeous vintage clothing and surrounded by antique furniture. . In between songs we had good chats with some fellow vintage-minded people, all of whom expressed an enjoyment of our playing and a fondness for the Banjolele. It was such a lovely atmosphere, we have been invited back to play again next month, hopefully outdoors and in the sunshine as originally intended. We were also delighted to have been booked for two weddings from this event and we are very much looking forward to them both. We love a good wedding, especially one with a vintage twist!

Our next gig was on Saturday. We played in the Chiswell Walled Gardens on Portland as part of the Cultural Olympiad, welcoming ambassador Michael Prior from the ‘Nowhere Island’ project. If you don’t know much about this it’s worth having a good read up here: http://nowhereisland.org/

Inspired by the project we wrote a song for the event, which opened the day’s festivities, we then went on to play a short set. You can read a write up of the event on the Echo’s website here: http://www.thisisdorset.net/news/9767345.Art_celebration_a_tale_of_two_isles/?ref=rss&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed

We had some great feedback from Michael and we have now been invited to join them in celebrating the official arrival of Nowhere Island to Weymouth on the 25th July. We’re honoured and excited to be involved and will keep you updated on the developments of this here.

In other Olympic news, we’re happy to announce that we have been accepted as one of the official Olympic Busking acts in Weymouth this summer! This means that we will be dotted about all over the place in specially designated spots in Weymouth to entertain and enjoy. Again we’ll keep you posted here on where and when this will be happening. We’re so looking forward to making the most of the fantastic sporting and cultural events that are coming to our home town this summer, it’s going to be a once in a lifetime experience.

As if all of that wasn’t exciting enough, we’ve just had our gig list for the V Fringe festival come through; it’s going to be epic. Oh and did we mention we’ve been booked for Hugh Fernley’s River Cottage Autumn Fair in Sept? (We can’t wait for the food…..) TOO MUCH EXCITEMENT!! I need a lie down.

Our pipeline is looking mighty exciting!

Hey TTWUkers!

We are pleased to announce that the TTWUke bug seems to be catching! Thank you to you lovely blog followers for spreading the word!

We have had an exciting week here, the postman has been VERY generous!!

We have purchased a couple of these super cute mini busking amps so we can take full advantage of the Olympics coming to town and entertain the masses as best we can!

We have always had a bit of an issue with mic-ing up our range of acoustic Ukuleles and so we have bought an array of different mics to try out, one of which we used at our gig at The Lazy Lizard last night and it made such a huge difference (more on that later!). There is no point obtaining all this fancy equipment without anything to play it though and so we invested in (treated ourselves to) a fantastic portable PA system so we can play our way through the summer! Below is  pic of a standard afternoon in TTWUke Headquaters….oh such fun!

Sexy Stuff hey?!

So as I mentioned we played a 2 hour gig down on Weymouth beach front yesterday evening. The Lazy Lizard are holding ‘The Sunday Sessions’ every Sunday from 3pm where 3 separate Acoustic acts entertain all the sore-headed locals as they enjoy their last few hours of weekend revelry!

We played from 7pm and I have to say it was one of our fave gigs to date! The sun has been shining for well over a week now and the punters were all over the pavement, relaxed, smiling and lounging while taking in the stunning view across Weymouth bay. We are super fortunate to live in such a beautiful, music-filled town!

The title of this post is due to the fact that our name seems to be spreading and new opportunities are popping up all over the place! If you want to see us play our next appearance will be at The Dorchester Curiosity Centre’s Vintage Market on Sunday 10th June at 12.30. Should be a fun-filled day! See the flyer below for more details….

Until next time you beauties! S xx

Live and Uke-ing

Holla,

Last night TTWU did our first live radio gig at local community station AIR and what a great time we had doing it! We arrived at the studio to a warm welcome from Station Manager Carl Greenham (cups of tea all round). We then got set up in the hanger whilst the team were broadcasting next door, we had a sound check and tested our gear. All was good to go so we donned our headphones and got chatting with presenter David James. After a cheery natter about what we do, ukuleles and giant Jenga we proceeded to play three of our favourite songs which went down a treat.

We couldn’t help but notice what a wonderful set up this AIR radio is. It is an extension of Westfiled Arts College and plays a fantasic role in school with every class being scheduled for at least one session a week in the studio. They even provide trainning and qualifications to those who are keen and Carl tells us the education programme now outreaches to many schools within the local community with kids being sent in busloads! What an amazing opportunity. Also we love their passion for live music! Support local radio, live music and community by reading more about AIR here and you can also listen online: http://www.aironair.co.uk/

Thanks to all those that listened in to us last night and sent us lovely messages! If you missed out, we will be posting some of the recordings on here.

Spring Break and the wonders of a long weekend…

Hello Friends,

After a rather busy and stressful week, including a nasty cold and lost voice for poor Stacey- we finally made it in one piece to Sunday where we played a cracking set at the Lazy Lizard’s Spring Break Festival. Stacey’s voice held out beautifully and there wasn’t even a sneeze down the microphone as we whizzed through a selection of old favourites and plenty of new ones. These included ‘Survivor’ by Destiny’s Child, ‘Disco 2000’ by Pulp and ‘When September Ends’ by Greenday. The latter we really had a good play with and inserted a few time signature changes, creating a gorgeous toy-box sounding waltz section in the middle.

Being a bank holiday weekend there was a great crowd and a happy relaxed atmosphere. It also coincided with the Weymouth Kite Festival so the views outside the window of kites being flown on the beach in the sun really added to the day.

It has made us very excitied for the summer!  Roll on the gigs.

With Love L x

Goings On…

Hello Uke Friends,

There’s been lots going on in the brand new Til There Was Uke abode. The music room is now fully functional and rehearsals have resumed. We have been working out some new arrangements of some ace songs and will be giving you a sneaky video peak here soon.

We have been booked for the May Bank Holiday ‘Spring Break’ fest at the Lazy Lizard in Weymouth which we are very much looking forward to. More details on this coming soon.

We are also in the process of booking up a summer of gigs and festivals, details of which will all be posted on here when confirmed. Do you know of anywhere or anyone that would enjoy a good ol ukulele time with TTWU? Put them in touch with us here and we will get on the case.

We hope to see you at a gig soon, until then, keep on uke-ing on…

With Love TTWU
