‘Til There Was Uke…. all we need is a uke and a song….
We are Stacey Rae Hobday and Lucy Hackett. We first met as teens just over 17 years ago discovering a mutual meeting of minds, friendship and much humour. We studied music together at school, college and then university.
We are both based in the beautiful seaside town of Weymouth, enjoying the good life- making music and teaching music.
Stacey – is the Dorset representative of Rock Choir. She holds four weekly rehearsals teaching over 400 members in Weymouth, Dorchester and Poole. Over the past five years they have performed at the NEC arena in Birmingham, Wembley Stadium, guested with Russell Watson and G4 on their UK tours and recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.
Lucy – is a gigging pianist and keyboard player, as well as a Piano, Flute and Ukulele teacher in and around Dorset. She also runs the popular adult ukulele group Portesham Ukulele Band (or PUB for short).
‘Til There Was Uke – developed from Lucy’s obsession with the ukulele and from our love of arranging different styles of music for unusual instruments. It gave us an opportunity to experiment with our enjoyment of combining the old with the new and indulge our fondness for all things beautiful and creative.
As soon as we got playing we loved the old fashioned, uncomplicated sounds of Lucy’s ukulele combined with Stacey’s sultry, soulful vocals. After adding in lush harmonies, whistle solos and percussive effects our sound as a musical duo was established.
We perform an eclectic range of covers from the 1920s to the present day for your aural pleasure and we invite you to follow our blog and join us at our next gig.
