‘Til There Was Uke…. all we need is a uke and a song….
We are Stacey Rae Hobday and Lucy Broddle. We first met as teens just over 15 years ago discovering a mutual meeting of minds, friendship and much humour. We studied music together at school, college and then university.
Stacey is the Dorset representative of Rock Choir. She holds five weekly rehearsals teaching over 300 members in Weymouth, Dorchester, Bridport and Poole. This year they have already performed at the NEC arena in Birmingham, Wembley Stadium and also guested with Russell Watson and G4 on their UK tours.
Lucy works as a Piano, Flute and Ukulele teacher in and around Dorset and runs a popular adult ukulele group in Portesham. She also plays keyboard in a few local bands.
‘Til There Was Uke developed from Lucy’s obsession with the ukulele and from our love of arranging different styles of music for unusual instruments. It gave us an opportunity to experiment with our enjoyment of combining the old with the new and indulge our fondness for all things beautiful and creative (a few of the things which also inspire our ‘Look’).
As soon as we got playing we loved the old fashioned, uncomplicated sounds of Lucy’s ukulele combined with Stacey’s sultry, soulful vocals. After adding in lush harmonies, whistle solos and percussive effects our sound as a musical duo was established.
We perform an eclectic range of covers from the 1920s to the present day for your aural pleasure and we invite you to follow our blog and join us at our next gig.
