Today we have been invited back to our local community radio station AIR for some festive fun. We will be performing a song or two and we are excited to be collaborating with Danny and the Goosemen on a Christmas favourite! You can tune in here to hear us from 6pm onwards: http://www.aironair.co.uk
Day 16 – Present Wrapping
We have both nearly finished our Christmas shopping and present making. Now comes the time to wrap them up, with some festive music in the background and a glass of Baileys to hand- let the wrapping commence. But have you ever tried to wrap up a ukulele?! No easy task I tell you.
If you’re thinking what can I get the ukulele player in my life for Christmas? How about this incredibly cool steam punk inspired ukulele bass?! (I’ll have one too please) x
Day 15 – A Beautiful Winter Wedding
As I’m sure you now know, one of our absolutely favourite things to do is to play at a wedding! We always feel so lucky to be asked to be part of someone’s special day and today was no exception. The bride looked beautiful, the groom so happy and the guests were enjoying themselves whilst we played through a few hours set at the drinks reception. We particularly enjoyed playing the newly requested (by the groom) Bob Marley songs that we did and hope to get a video up here soon. In the meantime, we wish the happy couple a lifetime of love and laughter xxx
Day 13 – A Funk and Soul Road Trip
Yesterday we ventured to Bristol to watch the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show- featuring a rare appearance from the Fantasy Funk Band. What an epic night! The band were unreal, funk and soul musos at the very top of their game, playing some of our very favourite music. Followed by a stomping DJ set by Craig Charles, it all took place in a wonderfully festive Speigiel tent where the beer and dancing was a plenty. To top it off we met and chatted with a number of the band, finding them most friendly, engaging and interested in all things musical. It was an honour to chat to keyboard legend Mick Talbot, who was very happy to talk about Nords, Hammond organs, teaching, soul music, ukuleles and more.
We are lucky girls! Check out this link to learn more about the FFB:
Day 12 – Ukulele Legends
Almost everyone who talks to me after a gig asks me if I have seen or heard of The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. My answer is yes and oh how I love them! What a talented bunch, full of humour and in fine voice. But most importantly, their uke technique is extraordinary. They really do show how much can be done with a ukulele what a wonderfully versatile and musical instrument it really is. Here is one of my favourite clips of them in action:
Day 11 – Inspriation
We have a very mixed and eclectic music taste between us. If you put either of our iPods on shuffle you could find yourself anywhere – to the opera, a 90’s boy band reunion or a Northern Soul night!
We find inspiration for our set list from many different places, we love learning new music and being introduced to new bands and musicians by friends.
Do you have a new music suggestion for us? Get in touch! Xx
Day 10 – Isa Lei
Here is a video of me learning to pick out a beautiful Fijian farewell song. It’s called Isa Lei, I hope you like it xx
Day 9 – What’s yours?
We want to know, what is your favourite Christmas song?? We are practicing some of ours at the moment and there are so many great festive tracks out there to choose from, it’s quite over whelming! Nothing gets me in the mood for Christmas more than a good Christmas song, the familiar music evokes memories and the nostalgia of a time that I so love. I always look forward to getting the Christmas records out and they never grow old for me. Here is my current favourite:
Day 8 – Britpop
We love a bit of Britpop! Here is our version of a Pulp classic, we hope you enjoy it…
