A Splendid Time Was Had By All!

And so came the day of the launch and what a top day it was! It started off with a lovely write up in the Dorset Evening Echo, under the very generous title of ‘Reasons to Be Cheerful’. We very much hope to live up to this title and our launch gig at Waffle On that evening was certainly a very cheerful affair.

The scene was set by the lovely Fiona, proprietor of the Waffle bar, who dotted round as many small stalls, tables and chairs the mini venue could fit in. Each was adorned with candles and the rest of the place was romantically lit by hanging stars lights and cute lamps. We set up our gear in the corner and were just about ready to begin as people started to arrive. And oh how they arrived, more and more until the place was wonderfully full. Lots of familiar faces and lots of new faces, all sat together on adjoining tables and chairs chatting to each other. It felt very friendly and intimate.

With the sweet aroma of waffles in the air and the sound of laughter filling our ears, we began our first set. We opened with an upbeat soul classic: ‘Signed Sealed and Delivered’, by Stevie Wonder and continued through 45 minutes of great songs- arranged to fit our duo and sound- the harmonies, percussion and whistling went down a treat. By the time we took our break, the festivities were in full swing. We chatted to lots of jolly people, who had lots of kind things to say, enjoyed a glass of wine and a sneaky bite of waffle. Then before we knew it it was time to get back on again.

The first three songs of the second set were my favourite: ‘I Saw Her Standing There’, by the Beatles. ‘Crazy’ by Gnarls Barkley, and ‘Baby I Love You’ by Aretha Franklin- all of which are so much fun to play. We continued for about another 50 minutes, there was plenty of banter and fun to be had with the audience and the re-appearance of the banjolele caused a mass cheer! But sadly the fun had to come to an end, as it always does. We finished with a version of Paulo Nutini’s ‘Pencil Full of Lead’ with a reprised chorus as an encore, by then everyone had joined in the singing and we ended on the ultimate high.

All that remains to say is thank you to Waffle On for having us, thanks to all who came we hope you enjoyed as much as us and here’s to the next gig!

Two Days ‘Til Launch…

Well…two days to go and we are VERY excited!! Have had a fantastically productive day!

Began with a bit of 9am dress-up and having coaxed a snoring photographer out of bed with coffee we cracked on with a very successful photo shoot! (Sneak peek below…see ‘Snap Happy’ for a few more pics…) after a little awkwardness interspersed with much giggling we got on with the important matter of rehearsal!! 30 songs are ship, shape, shiny and ready to be revealed to all on Friday evening at our launch gig!

It looks set to be a fun-filled busy evening and as ‘Waffle On’ is not the largest of venues we arehoping people are prepared to get very friendly, merry and enter into the spirit of what is sure to be an amazing evening…if hot waffles and bring your own beer aren’t enough of a convincer then maybe the fact we are bringing sherbet filled flying saucers and masses of lollipops will help??

Hope you are as excited as we are!! TTWU xx
