Mid Week Update!

Now that our ‘Til There Was Us fundraising project is fully underway, we thought we would give you a quick behind the scenes update as to how it all came about and how our last few weeks have been going.

The initial idea came from Stacey, after witnessing all the terrible reports in the news she thought there must be something we can do to help. We chatted it over during the summer months and her master plan began to formulate from there.

We really love recording our videos to show you and we have been wanting to do some performing with our many talented musician friends for a while now, so combining the two things made perfect sense. We began to send messages out and chat things over with our friends and families and we were delighted with the positive responses we got, not only were they willing to give up their free time to record with us but most were keen to help in other ways too.

The fundraiser gig idea was a natural progression, we wanted to end our 8 week video project with something special and what better way than with an afternoon of live music and entertainment. We were delighted again at the response of our fellow musos, all of whom were keen to get involved and play. We were also thrilled with the response we got from the team at Ayya, the bar where we wanted to host the event. They were full of great ideas and the day itself looks to be shaping up excellently.

Our first video recording session was with the wonderful Amy Mayes. We felt so lucky to have her for our first release, she is a total pro with a knock out voice to match. We also loved her song choice, we felt it very appropriate to the cause. I did an arrangement to include some vocal harmonies and we were really pleased with the overall blend of voices. The uke managed to hold its own with the three vocals too! We decided to record completely acoustically and we are really pleased with the natural simplicity of the sound.

After the release of the first video, we got some incredible feedback and some very generous donations. Thank you so much, to those that have already donated. Please do CLICK HERE if you would still like to donate.

This week we have already had a recording session with Josh and Harry. Josh is Stacey’s brother and he and Harry play in a guitar/vocal duo together. When they were travelling around Australia they busked together and released a number of their own videos online, which we loved. Click here to check out their Facebook page. It was so much fun recording with them yesterday and we can’t wait to release the new video on Friday!

We already have our next few recording sessions lined up over the next few weeks and we look forward to updating you with our progress. Also, keep your eyes peeled for further information on the big gig!

Cheerio for now,

About tiltherewasuke

Take two music loving ladies. Brew a friendship for twelve years. Add a quirky instrument. Stir in an idea. Leave to stand for a couple of months. You should be left with a duo who call themselves 'Til There Was Uke. A Vocal/Ukulele duo featuring Lucy Broddle on Ukulele and Stacey Rae Hobday on Lead Vocals. With our blend of original arrangements, whistle solos, creatively inspired looks and attention to detail we hope to entertain our audience with a mixture of well know and long forgotten classic tunes that have been administered with the TTWUke treatment! That treatment takes many guises and ranges from an old school Greenday standard with a time signiature change twist to an Amy Winehouse number sprinkled with a latin feel.
